Genesis is very prone to entwining magic into physical attacks, such as infusing his weapon with it to make his attacks more devastating. He favors fire magics and is not unaccustomed to using lesser summon materia in a fight. Due to him being part of Project G, Genesis can both make copies of himself and copy his genetic make-up unto other people. From the events in his former life, he finds himself with one black wing which enables him to fly.

Personality:
Genesis has come a long way. Once burdened by inner turmoil, Genesis felt betrayed by much of the world. His beginnings left him shattered and confused and shaped Genesis for the worse. He became arrogant and childish. For the most part, he was quite withdrawn, opening up only to his friends, Angeal and Sephiroth. His narcissism made him popular, so much so that he even obtained a fan club after he made a name for himself in SOLIDER. However, he strayed away from them as well. However, Genesis contained envy for Sephiroth, always hoping to prove himself as better than his rival.
Zack’s interference allowed Genesis to realize what the real gift of the goddess was and achieve it himself. He regained his pride as a SOLIDER and a renewed view on the planet. He has become repentant for his past actions. Genesis hopes to atone for his past sins and protect the planet he has come to respect.
Genesis's most defining trait is his love for literature. At a young age, Genesis's entusiasm for reading stumbled him upon the poem LOVELESS. He became obsessed with the work. As he grew older, the obsession grew. He attended various plays for the poem and began to carry the book around him. During his degradation, he began to take the words as a sort of prophecy for the events he was causing. Personifying characters from the poem as himself, Angeal and Zack, he believed the gift of the Goddess mentioned was the cure for his degradation. Now cured, the poem remains very dear to his heart and with the change of his ideals, it has become more powerful and more prevalent in his life.
History:
Like Sephiroth, Genesis was the offspring of genetic engineering from JENOVA’s cells. Called Project G, after Gillian Hewley, her cells were given to Genesis in hopes that he would grow to use Jenova’s abilities. However, Genesis was deemed a failure beside Project S, the one responsible for Sephiroth, and was adopted by a wealthy landlord in Banora unneeded for experiments. During the Wutai War, jealousy of the hero Sephiroth drove Genesis to join SOLIDER. Along with his childhood friend, Angeal, the two traveled to Midgar and rose in ranks to eventually become 1st class SOLIDERS. They became close friends with Sephiroth, though Genesis’s envy for the man never went away.
Sparring was common practice between the three men. However, things went awry when one training exercise wounded Genesis’s shoulder. While he insisted it was minor, the wound grew worse, having activated Genesis’s flawed genetic structure, created from the G cells, to degrade. Genesis was informed by Hollander that he could heal him and, following the orders given, Genesis recruited a large number of SOLIDERs and disappeared with them and Hollander.
These SOLIDER members were subjected to Genesis’s ability to infuse his genetics into others, creating a small army of clones. They attacked Banora, Genesis killing his foster parents. There, Genesis is confronted by Zack and Angeal. Believing himself to be a monster, he tells Zack this, claiming the same of Angeal. He states they cannot live in this world. He escapes shortly after. ShinRa declares both Genesis and Angeal killed in action to allow them to ease the public as they continue to fight Genesis and his clones in private. Angeal, dead to the world, allies himself with Genesis in a hope to be cured.
Genesis sends his clones to ShinRa and during the attack, he and Hollander head to his lab. There they are met with Zack and Sephiroth. Genesis’s envy gets the better of him, chastising Sephiroth that his glory belongs to Genesis. He tells them of the “gift of the goddess,” his goal.
The attack on ShinRa still occurring, Genesis hunts down Hojo with the intent to kill him. His plans are interfered with again and Genesis flees, summoning Bahamut Fury to stall his pursers. Later, Zack finds Genesis in a Mako reactor, his degradation so bad his hair has begun to fade white. There, Genesis declares Hollander useless and plans to use JENOVA’s cells to cure himself. When Hollander protests, Genesis says he will destroy with the world with himself. Afterward, he is challenged by Zack. Losing the fight, he falls into the reactor, believed dead.
However, he survived. Months later, his clones renew their attack. Sephiroth and Zack’s chase to stop him allows Genesis to confront Sephiroth. He tells him of the origins of their birth, of Project G and S, of JENOVA, and of his degradation. Genesis states that Sephiroth’s genetics are perfect and could stop his degradation. He requests them, only to be refused. Genesis leaves him, not know the profound effect he would have on Sephiroth.
Four years passed, Zack and Cloud escaping from imprisonment in Nibelheim and Genesis, his attention moved from Sephiroth, pursues them. Knowing that the same cells in Sephiroth were placed in the two men, he tells him this. A Genesis copy eats strands of Zack’s hair in an attempt to cure itself, only to mutate. Genesis chases Zack as he flees to Gongaga, stopping his clones from killing Zack. Hollander, who has become a Genesis Copy and Genesis believe Zack’s body rejected the cells and they turn their attention to Cloud. As Hollander and the Genesis copies search for Cloud, Genesis leaves, declaring he has discovered the meaning of the last act of LOVELESS. He retreats to caverns underneath the city of Banora. Lazard, infected with Angeal’s degrading cells, directs Zack to Genesis location in hopes to stop him once and for all.
There, Zack finds Genesis before a statue of Minerva, the goddess of LOVELESS. Genesis absorbs the Goddess Materia, believing himself the Hero of the poem. Transformed, he does battle with Zack but loses. However, in his defeat, he is restored to full health, his degrading gone. Now healed and having found his pride again, Genesis gathers what is left of his strength to challenge Genesis to one last fight as SOLIDERs. Weakened, Zack easily dispatches him. With the final blow that finishes the fight, Genesis is sent flying backwards. He lands, finding himself in a foreign place brimming with the Lifestream. Here, he sees Minerva who sees his desire to be a prideful SOLIDER and, with the Lifestream, halts his decay so he may live.
Zack carries the weakened Genesis out of the caverns. Having learned with the true gift of the goddess is, Genesis passes out. In his slumber and Zack’s absence, a helicopter arrives and he is carried off by Weiss and Nero. The men take him to Deepground and when Genesis awakes, he is requested to help them fight the Restrictors. Genesis declines, instead sealing himself in a cavern beneath Midgar. There, he waited the day he would be needed to protect the planet.
It seems that day has come.
