Name: Ven (Ventus, long)
Age: 15
Which game are you from: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Weapons/Abilities:
Ven wields the Keyblade, specifically the Wayward Wind: it's a lightweight, brownish gray model and the teeth arch out to one side to compensate for the way Ven holds it (reverse grip). It can become a Glider to take him to other worlds.
Ven also has armor contained in his one armored sleeve. It protects him from the darkness that looms closer in the Lanes Between.
Ars Arcanum - A fierce, unrelenting attack in a number of quick blows; the total damage depends on how quickly Ven's opponent goes down.
Tornado - Ven actually does call a tornado that sucks in and damages opponents. This only really works well on more fragile or numerous enemies, since Ven is vulnerable in the eye of the storm.
Aerial Slam - Ven knocks an enemy into the air just to slam them back into the ground with crater-forming strength.
Wind Raid - After charging it with elemental power, Ven launches his Keyblade at the enemy. Once it hits, it boomerangs back, and if there are still enemies around Ven it'll make a quick spinning circle to clear the area around him.
Thunder Surge - Ven charges with a ring of thunder around him that will hit anything his Keyblade misses.
Curaga - The best bandaid ever.
Fever Pitch - Only attainable after the fighting's gotten intense and Ven has landed some hits--specifically with his other abilities. This is a short duration boost, giving Ven extra speed and power and ending in a burst of energy that flares out along the ground a short distance from Ven's feet.

Personality:
Ven's just a kid and it shows in a lot of ways. He can be stubborn and selfish and rash, but he's kind at the core and his loyalty is always to his friends--whenever he's not dozing off somewhere. Ven mostly wants to do the right thing for them and he's not shy to make new ones, but he doesn't always have the strength to protect himself or those he cares about. Being secluded in the Land of Departure for so long didn't give him much of a chance to grow, and while he's stronger now he's still a far cry from Terra and Aqua's strength. They tend to shove him back from the front lines, and not being their equal has frustrated Ven in the past.
Nonetheless, his connection with them is very close. Terra in particular has earned his admiration, since Ven looks up to him and turns to him first for help and when Ven needs validation. Having either of them scorn him can hurt him very much, since having that understanding from both Terra and Aqua keeps Ven fragile in some ways. Around them, he can be the kid he is when he really needs to.
History:
Ventus was originally a pupil of Master Xehanort, who stripped his darkness from him to create his dark nemesis, Vanitas. This made Ven useless, but only the combination of their power could create the kind of destruction Xehanort sought, so he brought Ven to his old home of Destiny Islands. There, Ven's heart joined with Sora's to heal the damage. With Ven as the castoff from his new and improved student of darkness, Xehanort dropped him off at Eraqus’s where he knew the boy would be cared for and instructed until he needed him again. After a rocky start with Aqua and Terra, who didn’t understand at first how fragile his mentality was, Ven left the old void of his memories behind and started creating new ones. Eventually he formed a new sense of self around the lost parts and was able to achieve total consciousness again and function at a normal level.
It was at this point that he and the others went up to see a meteor shower. Ven dozed under the stars until first Aqua and then Terra showed up, and the three of them watched from the mountains of the Land of Departure. They didn’t know it yet but it was their last night together there. The next morning Terra and Aqua were to be examined for the Mark of Mastery as the youngest Keybearers for the position in years, so the three of them sparred before turning in for the night. They greeted Eraqus together, with Ven as a witness but not a participant in the exam, and Master Xehanort was there to watch. Ven noticed him staring and that immediately brought back awful memories, but he focused on the exam. Eraqus’s orbs of light were mysteriously [cough] infused with darkness that Xehanort’s subtle clench had nothing to do with, and one of them went after Ventus. Aqua ordered him back to his room but Ven and Terra agreed he could stay, and he lent a hand in that fight. Eraqus let it continue since they had things under control, and then Aqua and Terra fought for the Mark. The winner wouldn’t necessarily be the Master, but their hearts would reveal their potential.
In the end, Terra was unable to control the darkness within him during the fight, likely due to Xehanort’s interference or very presence. Eraqus and Xehanort decided that Aqua would be Master, which bothered Terra to the point that he stalked off. Ven returned to his room, disheartened, and found Vanitas there. Vanitas insisted that Terra was going to become a different person and that Ven would never be able to catch up to him in time, and eventually that made Ven go tearing off after Terra. He was too late to stop him, though, and upon observing how Terra got off world Ven repeated the motions and flew after him on his Keyblade. Aqua and Eraqus were too late to stop him, but that still made Aqua pursue him.
Ven’s first visit took him to a mine, where he ran into seven dwarves. It was a diamond mine, and they weren’t expecting any visitors, so at Grumpy’s insistence they decided Ven must be a thief and wouldn’t come near. Ven chased them down anyway, trying to get information on Terra, but they didn’t have anything they could tell him. In parting, Ven asked where he could find more people, and they sent him off to the castle. He found their house in the middle of the forest on the way back, but when he heard screaming he had to rush to Snow White’s aid. She’d been terrified by the trees reaching for her, which Ven assured her was an illusion. Still, he helped her through the rest of the forest to the house. While Ven was out securing the area, the dwarves returned and found Snow White. Ven came back to find them all and got accused again of being a thief and told to leave, but Snow White came to his defense, insisting that he’d rescued her. From her he found out that she’d run into Terra, but it appeared that Terra had sent Unversed after her. Determined to prove Terra’s innocence, he darted off to find his friend again and had to fight his way through a forest Unversed.
In the end, he was too late to catch Terra, but he ran into another person who’d seen him. It was an old crone carrying a basket of apples, and Ven returned the one that had fallen. She told him Terra had demanded information on Master Xehanort and menaced her with his Keyblade, and when Ven tried to figure that out she accused him of the same thing. Lost and confused, Ven left the world in search of Terra again.
Somehow, when he ended up in the next world, Ven shrank to the size of a mouse. This made him susceptible to getting trapped in a cage made for something his size. Fortunately enough for him, annoyed though he was about this magical mishap, he was rescued by Cinderella and a mouse named Jaq. Cinderella was clearly unfortunately blinded at a young age since she couldn’t tell the difference between Ventus and a mouse, and nonetheless he and Jaq became friends. Cinderella was trying to get ready for the ball, but with her stepsisters and evil stepmother she couldn’t muster the time to work on her dress. Jaq came up with a plan to help her, and Ven decided to go out and get materials. He got everything they needed, but while he was snatching a pearl out from under the cat’s nose, Lucifer woke up and started pouncing at him. Jaq quickly started chucking balls of yarn at Lucifer to save Ven, but the cat knocked him down from his perch and then Ven had to turn back. Passing Jaq the pearl, Ven held Lucifer off long enough for Jaq to escape. Eventually the cat ran off with offended hisses and spitting and Ven was free to return to Jaq and help with the dress. In the end, they presented it to Cinderella and she thanked them both. But it was time for Ven to get on the road again.
In the Enchanted Dominion, Ven ran across a sleeping girl whose beauty distracted him. Three Fairies sprang to her defense, but they relaxed when Ven insisted he wasn’t out to harm her. They explained that Maleficent had stolen her heart, and Ven posed the simple idea of getting it back. Apparently this hadn’t occurred to the Fairies, since they agreed and the four of them rushed off to the forest in order to get to Maleficent’s forbidden castle. A brief obstruction of violet and neon green flames were no match for the Fairies’ power, and Ven was able to reach the castle and find the heart. Upon freeing it, he experienced one of Princess Aurora’s memories, but then he encountered Maleficent herself. She fought him and he beat her down with help from the Fairies. Alarm bells started ringing in Ventus’s head when she recognized his Keyblade, and she went on to explain that he had Terra to blame for the loss of Aurora’s heart in the first place. Just as Ven started to believe her Aqua ran up to correct that, but when she insisted that Ven come home he refused and ran off again.
Out in the stars, Ventus ran into Vanitas, who sped ahead of him to a deserted world known as the Badlands. Ven made a landing and faced Vanitas in battle, but he lost horribly. Vanitas made to eliminate him and would have were it not for King Mickey intervening in the nick of time. Mickey was incensed at Vanitas for using the Keyblade so heartlessly and joined Ventus in the attempt to defeat him. They succeeded, and Vanitas told Ven to consider himself on probation before disappearing from the world. While confused again, Ventus turned his attention to Mickey, who showed him the artifact he’d yoinked from Yen Sid in order to travel the worlds and find answers. It reacted while Ven was nearby, sending them both to Radiant Garden. There, Ven spotted Mickey and went chasing after him, but when he reached the gates of the castle Mickey was nowhere to be found. The guards wouldn’t let him past, though, so when an Unversed showed up Ventus beat them to the punch and darted off in hot pursuit. The guards would have kept on, but a scientist from the castle, Even, admonished them for leaving their posts and encouraged them to go see “His Lordship.” Ven, he said, was a special case—since Even was able to tell at a glance who and what Ventus was.
Meanwhile, Ven chased the Unversed back into the square, where it was attacking the unflappable Scrooge. Terrified for his wallet, Scrooge got away from it when Ven told him to stay back. Ven was able to fight it off, but when he was about to chase after it again Scrooge called him back to give him something as gratitude. He admitted to Ven that he was also from another world and gave him three lifetime passes to Disney Town. Free from Scrooge’s benign but disastrous interference, Ven ran off again and encountered Merlin, who was annoyed at him for rushing past just as Terra did a moment ago. He mentioned a book, but Ven didn’t connect the dots. Instead he kept moving, eventually finding Aqua and Terra at the reactor, where the three different Unversed they’d all been chasing merged into one huge one that they had to eliminate together. They managed that with style, even if they were used to fighting one another and not alongside one another, and Ven presented the passes to his friends, slightly annoyed that Scrooge had insisted he bring two “grown-ups.” Terra and Aqua laughed at that, since neither of them really thought of themselves that way. But then things got serious, since Terra insisted Ven return home—but in the middle of his explanation Aqua started challenging his motives. Eventually she revealed that she’d been spying on him at Eraqus’s request, which only drove a knife deeper into Terra’s already wounded pride and betrayed Ventus’s trust as well. Ven decided to track Terra down, but upon running back out into the square he found the Unversed attacking a child. Once he fought those off, Even came to collect the kid, explaining that Ienzo was an orphan and the castle was trying to raise him in spite of his parents’ disappearance. He also mentioned that he suspected he and Ventus would be seeing a lot more of one another, which didn’t make any sense to Ven, but since Even was able to tell him that he’d seen Terra heading for the Gardens Ven headed off that way. He found Terra, hoping to go with him, but Terra turned him down. “When I really need you, Ven, I know you’ll be there,” he said.
Ven was disheartened nonetheless, and returned to find Aqua at the square. He told her that Terra was already gone and asked to come with her, but she too told him to go home. Ven was determined not to, though, and moped in the square afterward, remembering the good times back before the exam and all this started. While he was fiddling with Terra’s old toy Keyblade, he dropped it in the path of one redheaded Lea. Lea gave it back to him with a snark, even though his friend Isa seemed to think they didn’t have time to goof off, and insisted that they fight, Ven’s toy Keyblade against his fiery frisbees. It took a little digging, but Ven agreed, and they sparred for a bit before Lea went down, graciously offering to call it a draw. Isa rolled his eyes and poked fun, which got Lea all huffy, but in the end the three of them were all laughing at the whole encounter. But Isa and Lea couldn’t stick around, and they left Ven with a warm feeling as he set off in search of his own friends again.
In Disney Town, Ven first ran into Captain Justice, who was looking to get votes for some sort of popularity contest, and so he was helping out around the town. He gave Ven some info on the town itself, then rushed off to do more good deeds in the name of helping others for his own benefit. He also wasn’t very good at it, since when Huey, Dewey, and Louie couldn’t get the ice cream machine to work, Justice’s idea was to break it until it worked. Ven eventually stepped in and helped the nephews get things working for Queen Minnie, and Justice slunk off, schooled. The boys told Ven that Pete, otherwise known as “Captain Justice,” was out to get votes for the Million Dreams Award. But, they said, he wasn’t going to win—since no one for a minute thought that Captain Justice was someone other than Pete. Minnie explained that the award wasn’t the important thing, it was just an incentive that gave recognition to the most selfless citizen and brought the focus to how everyone in Disney Town looked after one another. That got Ven to reflect and wish that Terra and Aqua were at his side, instead of constantly insisting he get out of their way and someplace safe instead of someplace useful.
Ven landed in the Coliseum to find a satyr running away on his stubby goat legs. Chasing after him only seemed to tick him off, and Ven wasn’t the only one—Hercules followed as Phil’s pupil, and then Zack, a promising young hero wannabe who also wanted to be under Phil’s tutelage. Apparently Zack had been pursuing him enough to warrant Phil’s ire, and after an Unversed attack that got Ven’s attention Phil said he’d see how both Zack and Hercules did in the games and then decide which one to teach. This crushed Hercules, who’d already worked so hard to get Phil to teach him in the first place. Ven saw this whole thing go down and offered his help to Hercules, who was out of luck as far as a trainer went. The two of them worked at it in the Coliseum before the games got started, and Ven caught Phil watching. Then Zack and Hercules entered the games, taking a slightly easier route to get to the competitor who was supposedly ripping apart the games out there. Ven thought immediately of Terra, but must not have seen him during the games. It boiled down to a fight between Zack and Hercules, and Ven in the stands thought of Terra and Aqua and that fateful first exam. In the middle of the fight Phil interrupted to tell them that the Unversed were coming to attack the Coliseum, and that they’d ruin the games if they got there. Ven darted off to take care of it, shouting over his shoulder for the others to keep fighting that one out. When he got to the limits of the Coliseum, he found too many Unversed for him to deal with easily. Fortunately, Hercules had not abandoned him, insisting that a hero wouldn’t let his friend fight alone. And Herc was a hero. Almost. The two of them dealt with the Unversed, after which Ven apologized for making Hercules lose the match. Hercules didn’t mind, though—it’d been his decision, and as it turned out Zack ditched too. They both tried to figure out who’d won after all, and Phil showed up just to tell them he never said he was going to pick the winner. He only wanted to decide based on how they both fought, and since Hercules was the first one to run to Ven’s side when the kid was in need, Phil picked him. Zack took the rejection pretty well, and all in all the three of them forged a close bond in a very short time before Ven had to leave again, determined now to patch things up with Aqua and Terra.
While out in the stars again, Ven ran into a strong, squidlike Unversed. This one slipped aboard a spaceship, and so Ven chased after it in turn. This made him run straight into Gantu, who didn’t accept Ven’s explanation about the monster until alarm signals started blaring. Ven started to run after Gantu, but Stitch intercepted him with his Wayfinder and Ven, Terra, and Aqua’s names on his lips. Ven still couldn’t stay, though, and darted off, telling Stitch to stay put. He ran throughout the ship until he found the engine room, where the Unversed had started damaging the ship from the inside, greedily taking its energy. Stitch was at Ven’s side when he faced it, gripped by an awful rage, and the two of them beat it into submission—but that wasn’t enough for Stitch, who was still steaming about something. When Ven tried to calm him down, Stitch launched him backwards into the floor. It was only when Stitch turned around and showed Ven the broken fragments of his Wayfinder that Ven understood what had happened, but he reassured Stitch that it was only an object and just because it was broken didn’t mean the friendships surrounding it weren’t intact. Gantu interrupted again, this time to attack Stitch, and again he didn’t believe there’d been another monster on the ship, assuming Stitch had caused all the destruction to the engine. Ven and Stitch escaped, Stitch on a ship and Ven by glider, but in the middle of the escape Stitch accidentally triggered the hyperdrive. The enemy ships realized this and backed off, but Stitch couldn’t get the message across to Ven, and the ship tore through space fast enough to send Ven flying and launch Stitch far beyond his reach.
Still seeking the others and Mickey, Ven got to Neverland too late to save the king from Vanitas’s intervention. He dozed off, as usual, and Tinkerbell kicked him awake at the request of a couple of Lost Boys. After introductions, they explained they were off to find a shooting star. That got Ven’s attention and he decided to go with them, but first they ran into Peter Pan, who wanted to go steal some treasure from Captain Hook and enlisted the help of his Lost Boys. Tinkerbell refused to go with him, more interested in the star, and Ven decided to go with her. They found the Star Shard that Mickey had been using to travel, but when Ven ran up to collect it Hook grabbed it as well as Tinkerbell. He told Ven to tell Peter Pan to meet him at the Mermaid Lagoon, but when Ven and Peter headed over there it was right into Hook’s canon fire. Luckily enough, Tinkerbell had gotten free somehow and turned up in spite of things. Since Hook wasn’t playing fair either, they split up, and Ven ran after Hook while Peter went to distract Smee. The Captain turned his sword on Ven when he realized this, but Ven fought him off and left him at Tick Tock’s mercy. The boys returned with the treasure chest and Peter and Ven and Tink all gathered around, but the chest was empty. Peter shrugged it off, and one of the boys suggested they put their own treasures in. This led to dropping a lot of toy swords and other odds and ends into the chest, and in the end Ven decided to add Terra’s old toy Keyblade to the mix, knowing he didn’t need it as long as he had the real Terra and Aqua. Tink also wanted to put the Star Shard in, claiming it for her own, but Peter made her give it to Ven so he could take it back to Mickey. At that point the Shard reacted, taking Ven straight to Yen Sid’s tower, where Goofy and Donald took him up to see the master himself. Yen Sid recognized Ventus and pointed out that he’d been ordered home, but since his own pupil in Mickey was often just as good about orders he let it go. Now that the Shard wasn’t in Mickey’s possession, he couldn’t be switching worlds and confusing Yen Sid’s powers, so the sorcerer was able to track Mickey down in the Badlands. Dark magic interfered with his work, cutting his vision short. Goofy and Donald both insisted they’d go with Ven to find Mickey, but Ven told them it’d be irresponsible to throw them in danger when he already owed Mickey for saving him the first time.
Ven rushed to the Badlands to find Mickey unconscious, and at that point Xehanort cornered them. Ven started to have some strange memories about his past with Xehanort, who explained to him that Ven could create a powerful form of Keyblade meant to end all things if he joined in battle with his counterpart, Vanitas. But Xehanort didn’t leave him with all the answers, only telling him that Eraqus knew who he really was. That explained why Eraqus always wanted Ven at his side so he could keep an eye. Thrusting Ven and Mickey both back into the stars, Xehanort ordered Ven to seek out Eraqus and find the truth. While he was lost in space again, Ven regained consciousness and struggled with the memories that still wouldn’t come into focus. Determined, he set off for the Land of Departure.
When he got to his home, Ven found Eraqus waiting. Eraqus was initially concerned for him, but grew angry when he found out what Xehanort had been telling the boy. He knew that Xehanort was determined to make the X-blade, and the only way to stop him was to destroy one of the two halves that needed to fight to make it happen. Ven was before him, so Eraqus attacked Ven—but Terra moved in to save him at the last moment. Ven, realizing that he held the key to destroying everything he knew and loved, told Terra to stop and that Eraqus was right, but Terra wouldn’t listen. When one of Eraqus’s attacks sent them both flying, Terra saw the depth of Eraqus’s determination and seized Ven up as he called the darkness. Tossing Ven back through a portal to safety, Terra turned his Keyblade on his master.
The portal brought Ven to Destiny Islands, Xehanort’s old home, and there he encountered Vanitas. That finally triggered his suppressed memories, back when Xehanort tried to force him into forming the X-blade. In the end, though, Ven made it clear that he’d rather succumb to darkness, so Xehanort opened his heart and released the darkness to create Vanitas. This made Ventus into the zombie that was brought before Eraqus later on and turned over to his care. Now that he knew the truth, Ven still refused to cooperate, telling Vanitas he wouldn’t fight. Vanitas threatened to destroy Terra and Aqua and told Ven to meet him at the “only place that could spawn the X-blade.”
With that in mind, Ven headed to the Keyblade Graveyard. He found Terra and Aqua already there, and told them what he knew—which wasn’t much, but it was enough that he wanted them to erase him if it came right down to it. Neither of them sounded eager to do that, but then Xehanort and Vanitas crashed the party and the three of them suited up for a fight. The fighting was fierce and in the middle of it Ven ended up under Xehanort’s fingers. Xehanort froze him solid and let him fall down to Aqua’s arms. While she was still trying to fix him, Braig intervened with the intention of getting rid of them both. Once Aqua defeated him, he revealed that he’d only been buying time for Vanitas, who showed up and took Aqua down in a single blow. Just as he was about to kill her, Ven finally forced himself to his feet and attacked. He couldn’t defeat Vanitas, though, who had the Unversed wrestle Ven into motionlessness so the two of them could join together. The Unversed had been coming from Vanitas the whole time, and with every defeat they only returned to his overpowering negativity. Once the two of them joined, Vanitas also had to defeat Ventus within his own heart. This he couldn’t do, and even equipped with the broken X-blade he fell to Ven, who would rather sacrifice his own heart than let harm come to his friends. In the end, his heart wandered between light and darkness and found Sora's again. Ven knew at that time that he had to go to sleep again, and this time he wouldn't wake until Sora intervened. While his heart dozed within Sora's, Aqua took his body to the Land of Departure and turned it into Castle Oblivion, letting him sleep there while she remained in darkness and from within Xehanort Terra sought Ven.
Likes: Dozing, sparring (sometimes with strangers), hanging out with Terra and Aqua, making friends, ice cream
Dislikes: Vanitas and Master Xehanort, the darkness, being treated like a child, being lied to

Ven looked up with a gasp, feeling something he wasn't sure how to explain at first. Maybe it was just knowing this place...and yet not knowing it, and maybe it was the sudden emptiness of the years. He clutched the Wayfinder close, then pushed it back into his pocket as he headed for the door. There was no handle, like it'd gotten sealed, but Ven felt for one anyway, pushing on the wall first with his hands and then with his shoulder. When it wouldn't budge, he stood back with a determined grunt and raised a hand.
The Keyblade wouldn't come.
"Wha--?!" He tried again--that was just so...wrong! How could it do that?! It was like breathing, he'd had it for as far back as he could...
Ven's empty hand clenched into a fist. "Alright. So I don't have the Keyblade. That's not enough to bring me down!" He hoped not, anyway. Terra and Aqua mothered him too much all the time, but without the Keyblade he may really need their protection.
His eyes found the door again. Should he wait? Was this just another way of shoving him into his room--through a portal--somewhere out of the way and safe? No, don't think that. But why couldn't he get out? Someone had to be coming for him, but what if...
Blue eyes widened when he felt Terra's light. It wasn't the light he'd followed, but he knew it somehow without having to be told. "In here! Terra! I'm in here!" he called, hearing his voice bounce against the door and back around the room. Was his voice even getting through? He couldn't hear Terra's, but he knew he was close. Still calling his friend's name, Ven tried beating on the door in desperation--it wasn't going to end like this, Terra couldn't just walk past him--and it started working, suddenly. He had just enough time to realize that the light emanating from it wasn't coming from him before he had to stumble back as it opened. His legs suddenly felt new again, and they crumbled under him at the sight of someone he didn't think he'd see again.
On his knees, Ven let his hands fall to his thighs and sat back on his heels in awe. "Terra...!" he got out, suddenly smiling uncontrollably as Terra's face blurred over with tears.
