Name:
Vayne Carudas Solidor
Age:
Twenty-seven
From:
Final Fantasy XII
Weapons:
Vayne wields no weapons and instead fights with his body, much like a monk.
Abilities:
Unknown as of current. After absorbing the heretic Occuria Venat, Vayne has become something similar to the very beings he was waging war against. The irony is, perhaps fortunately, lost on him in his current state. How much left of him that is human is debatable.

Personality:
Vayne is most often renowned as a conniving and ruthless bastard. His name was enough to invoke fear in many for good reason. A well-rounded genius, both in military tactics, book education, and manipulation, Vayne has little trouble overwhelming any opponent, whether on the field or in a battle of wits. His intelligence, contrarily, makes him quite suitable for the highest seat of power in Archadia. Paired with his natural charisma, bred manners, and ability to manipulate the masses, Vayne is quite the threat. On occasion it's hard to tell whether or not your dislike of him is justified due to how absolutely two-faced he is. He is quite arrogant, sure of his plans (though some would argue for good reason) no matter how grand they may seem. He plans things from step one to their completion, each in elaborate details, each to be followed to a 't', and more often than not they succeed in full.
He is extremely loyal to his country of Archadia and believes all his actions to be in her best interest. He has even gone as far as to kill his own brothers to protect Archadia. And, while after such a statement it seems unlikely, he has a noticeable weakness when it comes to his youngest and only remaining brother, Larsa. As he would for Archadia, Vayne would do anything for Larsa, whether the boy realizes it or not. Vayne's dedication and strive to complete what he finishes make him honest in his word (when he means it), though he has more than once lied to those he means to protect to do just that.
Vayne knows no bounds when it comes to achieving his goals. In his mind, the end truly does justify the means. Killing a few to save the masses is a sacrifice he is more than willing to take. While his motives are harsh, Vayne has honest intentions. He wants nothing more than to fix a world he has deemed broken.
History:
"And so House Solidor lives on."
In 679 Old Valendia, when autumn might as well be winter, it began.
Born to the 11th Emperor of Archadia, Lord Gramis, Vayne was the third child of the current House of Solidor. The advantages of his birth should be obvious and he grew healthily and with little interference. When he was of age, Vayne began to see tutors like his elder brothers. He learned to read and write early, just as he had in teaching himself to walk. He was ever enthralled by the world and studied everything available, reading any book that fell into his hands. He surpassed his tutor’s knowledge of the subjects they had been brought to teach and turned them away, flustered and fumbling for the answers to his sharp questions.
It did not take long for his interests to shift away from education of everything and hone in on things more Solidor. Military, law, order, Archadia: Vayne's attention became focused on their workings. He had a strong hatred for lawbreakers and attended trials and executions, public or otherwise, afterward sated at knowing that Archadia was once more safe. He sat quietly in meetings he was allowed to attend with judges and the Senate. He gained his father's approval, if warily."Larsa is as he should be."
Vayne accepted his family, but received nothing from them. He found in them no emotional comfort, no love, no serenity. There was no damage done: he did not need what was not offered. It was with the birth of Larsa that this changed. At 15, Larsa's birth was something unexpected. Vayne had long ago accepted being the youngest child. In a world of politics and eldest sons, even three male children was unnecessary. Larsa's birth was somewhat strange, intrusive. For nine months, Vayne shied away from the subject, uninterested.
But Larsa himself, as a being not a thing-to-come altered his view of family.
Vayne attained a radically overprotective affection for the child. He spent a great deal of his time with Larsa beside him. He taught Larsa arguably more than his tutors did and protected him from losing the innocence he harbored that attracted Vayne so. For a handful of years afterward, Vayne's promise as the perfect candidate to take the throne after his father was overwhelming. A declared genius and no longer seemingly incapable of care beyond himself, Vayne was a threat to his brothers. Even when his ideals began to warp."My council did but guide your able hand."
Vayne's continued interaction in the empire of Archades lead him naturally to Draklor. Having proved his worth, Vayne was introduced to the finer workings of the labrotory and the man that ran them. Doctor Cidolfus Bunansa, at nearly twice Vayne’s age, proved to be quite a worthy companion. The two of them hit it off rather quickly, Vayne amused and pleased to have someone intelligent enough to exchange words with. Polite altercations flowed easily into serious debate. Serious debate treaded tediously on the taboo. But there was always a hole, a question, one that neither of them had the answer to: what is wrong?
And then Venat came.
Pumping enough mist to suffocate, the Occuria was beautiful and terrifying. When it spoke, it left them hungry. Gods of Ivalice that Ivalice knew nothing about. Gods that controlled fate and history, past, present, future, life, death, everything. Venat, the heretic, come to help them, men with the power to set it straight. Sudden and overpowering, every bit like a hallucination, but Vayne believed. Every last word of it made sense to some part of him long dormant. An explanation without flaw. Venat’s presence, constant, filled Vayne with a heady purpose. He was not a toy of Gods. The need to hold his own fate combined dangerously with his growing need to protect Archadia as he protected Larsa.
He concluded that he needed power, the power of an emperor, then the power of a Dynast-King. Rid Archadia of all threats, inside or out, then all of Ivalice, a world wounded beyond repair. Vayne’s military tactics, strategies, startling intelligence, bore fruit a plan to do so. The start of an intricate scheme designed with careful specific steps, each painstakingly laid, one that would ripen six vital years later.
The Occuria would herd them like sheep no longer."Lord Vayne himself once saw his elder brothers brought to like justice, did he not?"
He was 21 when everything began to fall into place. It began with his brothers, minus Larsa, who were to be put to death for apparent treason. Vayne was given the task, one he took up with near vigor. In cold blood, he took the lives of his brothers, face-to-face, shock-to-stoic. Eyes empty, he cleaned himself of blood, the first that would stain his hands. Competition spent. Dr. Cid commended more avidly than he pitied. It began, a whirlwind of thought, of understanding, of steps. Vayne’s ambition, Bunansa’s approval, Venat’s empty compliments. His full attention was always on the next footfall. He waited patiently, placidly, for his next turn to move. For his reward.
All good things to those that wait.
Nethicite, magicite, deifacted, manufactured, sun-stones, crysts, Dynast-Kings. Judges and Judge Magisters, the Senate and the masses. Rozarria, Landis, Nabradia, Dalmasca: Archadia expanded, bloated. Larsa grew, perfect as Vayne intended. Vayne grew, and the ends suddenly became absolute justification of the means. Cid manufactured, tested, produced results. Venat waited, ever patient, ever in the background. Desire rose, power, freedom, taking the reins back to from Occuria."Oh, I am grateful for the sacrifice. Without it, Manufacted Nethicite would have eluded us."
25. 25 and all the pieces fell into place. It began with Nabradia. Under influence from Vayne and Dr. Cid, Emperor Gramis answered the Nabradia's refusal to accede with their own Midlight Shard. The results were devastating. Nabudis and her people were destroyed within an instance, leaving nothing but ruin and mist. But Dr. Cid had his results: the power of nethicite. Soon after, Archadian troops stormed what was left of the palace, managing to kill the recently married Lord Rasler. With the royal blood of Nabradia gone, it fell without struggle into Archadia's hands.
Dalmasca, fearing a massacre of the same size, fell to Archadia's demands in a treaty no better than surrender. However, the treaty was a trap set by Vayne and, after King Raminas had signed it, the newly appointed Judge Magister Gabranth took his life. Twin to the Captian Basch of Dalmasca, Gabranth was to act as him and act he did. Using Reks, a lowly knight as their witness, Vayne arrested "Basch" before retrieving Reks to have him testify in court.
Basch fon Ronsenburg's name was smeared and declared executed. Lady Ashe of Dalmasca, wife to the fallen Rasler, was declared deceased from suicide though she lived. Vayne received Dalmasca, acting as Lord Consul to a second country seemingly without royal blood. Tensions between Rozzaria and Archadia increase but Vayne continued his plans with little mind.
Vayne, aware that his father is a puppet to the Senate, began to suspect that he would be passed over for Emperor, the title going to Larsa instead. Young, the boy would be the perfect puppet in replacement of the sickly Gramis. To avoid this fate, Vayne killed his own father and, while the act was transparent, blamed the Senate who was found guilty and executed for the crime."For too long have my deeds gone unrewarded."
With his father dead, Vayne replaced him as the 12th emperor of Archadia. However, his time as such was short. The rising resistance and the small party led by Lady Ashe and the ex-Captain Basch and aided by Larsa found their footing as well. Under Dr. Cid's influence, Lady Ashe's group was manipulated into retrieving the Treaty Blade and destroying the Dusk Shard, therein ending the Occuria's reign over Ivalice. Unaware of the Occuria's lack of control, Vayne's men completed the sky fortress Bahamut, the largest airship to touch the skies. Over Rabanastre, war broke out Vayne ignoring Larsa's claims that peace could be found. Punishment and example was the only way to set them straight. Treaties only gave them room to rise up again.
During the battle, Lady Ashe's party slipped through the Bahamut's defenses, storming the ship. Vayne greeted them, claiming Ashe lacking in skill to rule and Damasca lost. However, Larsa turned his back on Vayne, joining Lady Ashe. They fought and, when Vayne seemed defeated, Larsa's nethicite restored Vayne's strength, giving him greater skill than before. With Larsa knocked out in the aftershock, Judge Gabranth took up his place and Vayne, furious, attempted to kill the judge for his treason. Both Gabranth and himself badly wounded, Vayne turned, leaving the battle. Ashe and her party followed, catching him in time to see Venat fusing with his broken body. Venat soothed his worries, reassuring that the Occuria had lost control. He had succeeded. His plans had come nearly to completion. But the world was still broken.
Venat's power flooded into Vayne, and, unable to control it, Vayne became as them, The Undying, wings forged from pieces of the Bahamut ripped straight from it's casing and attached to his flesh. In his mindlessness, Vayne lost once more. It cost him everything."Won't Cid be eager to learn what has happened here. History begins anew."
He had lost his brother's trust, Cidolfus's helping hands, his chances of Dynast-King, his people's loyalty, and his life. Or so he’d thought.
Venat’s fusion with his wounded body did more than he could have hoped for. Occuria, undying, and he, partly one of them. The devastation to his body was immense. The explosion of mist from lack of control over his powers flung him far. For a while, he had been nothing, floating in an abyss of black, hollow, eternal, suffocating. When he found he could open his eyes again, his body hummed with the mist. He was nearly whole, though metal drawn from the Bahamut still clung to his flesh.
Vayne, not one for idleness, dragged himself from the dirt.
